Cranial Therapy
What is Cranial Therapy?
Cranial therapy is a gentle, non intrusive hands on method of:
- evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the physiological body system called the cranio sacral system ~ comprised of the cerebrospinal fluid and membranes that surround and protect the spinal cord
- evaluating and releasing myofascial restrictions that may be present throughout the physical body
How will Cranial Therapy help?
- Dysfunctions of the cranio sacral system have a detrimental affect on the nervous system of the body. When the proper functioning of the nervous system is impaired, this in turn can have has a negative influence on the circulatory, digestive, muscular and immune systems of the body.
- Myofascial restrictions can cause a host of physical pain and discomfort. Myofascial restrictions can also contribute to postural misalignment, muscle imbalances and the formation of trigger points.
- Adjustments of the spine by an oesteopath or chiropractor may in certain cases be beneficial. However, frequent adjustments of the spine are not recommended. Continual misalignment of the vertebrae of the spine is a symptom of underlying muscles imbalances, trigger points and myofascial restrictions. In these situations, just manipulating the spine without working on the underlying soft tissue problems is a temporary fix and is only treating the symptom and not the cause. This is where Cranial Therapy and other specialised myo-fascial release techniques can be beneficial.
Cranial Therapy compliments the bodies natural healing processes, improving resistance to disease and is effective for:
- Migraine headaches/ Stress headaches
- Chronic neck and back pain
- soft tissue injuries
- re-occurring injuries
- Impingement of Cranial and Spinal nerves
- Chronic fatigue
- Stress related problems
- Connective tissue disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Infantile disorders
Cranial Therapy is suitable for all age groups and fitness levels and can be affective in acute and chronic conditions.
